Teacher Residency



SCOE’s Teacher Residency Program is an innovative teacher preparation program built upon an accelerated course of study centered around a yearlong student teaching placement at a single school site. Our mission is to develop and retain credentialed teachers from diverse backgrounds who foster respect, inclusion and equity in students, classrooms and the community. SCOE’s School of Education’s Teacher Residency Program collaborates with two Institutes of Higher Education — Pacific Oaks College and Teacher’s College of San Joaquin.

Program Highlights

  • Intense clinical practice (student teaching) alongside a mentor teacher for entire year (180 days)
  • Gradual release of teaching responsibilities during the school year
  • 13 month preliminary credential program
  • Coursework in the evenings and weekends
  • Structured and ongoing observations and feedback
  • Comprehensive coursework and professional learning opportunities
  • Teaching position upon successful completion of program

Credential Pathways

  • Multiple Subject focused on Transitional Kindergarten

Financial Incentive

  • Living stipend provided through grant funds ($28,000 - $38,000)
  • $500 minimum monthly stipend through district/charter
    (during school year)

Eligibility/Requirements

  • College graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Meet the Basic Skills Requirements (satisfied by a degree
    from an accredited university)
  • Participate in an intense clinical practice (student teaching)
    alongside a mentor teacher for the entire school year
  • Attend all Teacher Residency Program professional
    learning sessions
  • Complete Preliminary Teaching Credential Program leading
    to a California Multiple Subject Credential with an emphasis on
    Transitional Kindergarten or Education Specialist Teaching Credential
  • Complete all credential requirements including Subject
    Matter Requirements (CSET), TPA, RICA, Observations, and Coursework with a 3.0
  • Teach in participating district for a minimum of 4 years after completing the program

Documentation Needed Prior to Starting

  • Certificate of Clearance from CTC
  • U.S. Constitution Requirement (either by course or exam)
  • Tuberculin test
  • Registration for CSET (but completion highly recommended before program start)
